In 2004 MoCADA formed a partnership with the BAM Local Development Corporation (now the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership) to create a larger space to accommodate MoCADA’s growing audience, staff and programs.
MoCADA opened its new facility in the James E. Davis 80 Arts Building on May 19, 2006. MoCADA occupies 1,700 square feet on the ground floor. Under the design leadership of the architectural firm, studioSUMO, MoCADA’s new facility accommodates visitors from across the globe that want to learn more about the African Diaspora.
studioSUMO ensured the new space reflected MoCADA’s ideals and focus for the future. Integral to the design of the museum is a unique focus on the African Diaspora. The design is creatively incorporated into the outside logo-colored windows to the museum store’s layout.
