SUMMARY

This mural is the second in what has become a two-part series honoring our icons and new ancestors. Entitled “Faith Ringgold,” this artwork created by Dr. Nettrice Gaskins celebrates the work of painter, author, mixed media sculptor, performance artist, and activist, perhaps best known for her narrative quilts. We honor her legacy, passion for art, love for community, and her commitment to capturing the African American experience.

Originally designed by the artist using AI technologies, the vinyl version of Gaskin’s digital work of Faith Ringgold, which was installed on Juneteenth 2024, stands over 20 ft high. It should also be noted that “Faith Ringgold” follows the landmark mural of “Greg Tate,” which was also created by Gaskins and lived in the Ubuntu garden. While these murals are part of a rotating schedule of artwork that will be showcased here from year to year, we now honor Greg Tate in perpetuity as well as hose who bring his values to life.

Our mural wall is now called: The MoCADA Greg Tate Art Wall.
