BAC Wellness Festival

Event Details

Join Brooklyn Arts Council and MoCADA for a FREE day of wellness on Saturday, June 25 from 12pm – 6pm. The festival will feature live music from renowned musicians and performers that represent the diverse creative community of Brooklyn as well as healing pop up activities. Featured musicians include Riva Nyri Precil; Martin Vejarano and the La Cumbiamba Eneye band; the Tai Allen band, The Resistance Revival Chorus; DJ Ushka, and DJ Shamal. Pop-up wellness activities facilitated by Sunder Ashni, plus a special performance by Kaisokah Moko Jumbies USA. Learn about healing traditions through BAC Sonic Clinic pop-up exhibition featuring digital art by David Gumbs, health-based conversations and health screenings with Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center.

12:30 – 1:30 pm

Haitian Music + Dance Performance: Riva Precil & Maxine Montilus, songs and dances from the Haitian Vodou spiritual tradition to highlight how healing can be gained from tradition, body, and spirit.

1:45pm – 2:15 pm

Meditation & Movement Workshop: Ground and Groove with Sunder Ashni in this 30-minute moving meditation to support a sense of stability and flow in the body. 

2:30pm – 3:15 pm

Cumbiambas:

Join La Cumbiamba eNeYé with Martin Vejarano for healing through Cumbia music. 

3:30pm – 4:00 pm

Sample Sale: Native Tongues an audiogasmic journey through classic hip-hop with Tai Allen & co alongside a DJ who will rock the music of Tribe, Mos Def, Latifah, Common, De La, Badu et al.

4:15pm – 5 pm

DJ Ushka is a DJ and activist, whose genre-blending approach delivers joy as a necessary part of our daily practice despite the chaos. 

5pm – 5:30 pm

Resistance Revival Chorus, a collective of more than 60 women and non-binary singers who join together to breathe joy and song into the resistance and to uplift and center womxn’s voices.

5:30pm – 6:00 pm

Moko Jumbie Performance with Kaisokah Moko Jumbies USA, Inc., a stilt dancing group that educates children and adults about the art form of stilt walking.

12pm –6:00pm
