Event Details

Celebrate the opening of our newest exhibition, Flaunt: Being the Dream, with music by DJ Freedem who will be spinning from 2-5 PM! Light refreshments will be served.

Date: Saturday, June 1
Time: 1-5pm
Location: MoCADA Abolition House, House 7A Nolan Park, Governors Island

This special presentation, curated by MoCADA’s own Zola-Jourdan Savage with a special soundscape by Run P., is a dynamic, multimedia group exhibition that explores the Black Transgender, Non-Binary, and Gender-Nonconforming (TGNC) experience to unpack contemporary perceptions of identity via the expression of gender and sex. In this presentation, universal themes including social roles and the way we inhabit them, cultural cues, power structures, survival, pleasure, and their intersection with race, transcend prejudices to represent the purest form of self-realization.

This exhibition is made possible thanks to the Ford Foundation, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the Coalition for Theaters of Color, NYSCA, and the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development.
