“When Malcolm Smiled” Film Screening + Malcolm X 100 Celebration

This Black August\, celebrate the centennial of Malcolm X and his commitment to the liberation of the Black diaspora with a special screening of When Malcolm Smiled\, a short film by Director Muhammida El Muhajir (Waxprint Media).
Join us Friday\, August 15\, to witness Muhajir’s poetic reimagining of  Malcolm X’s transformative 1964 visit to Ghana\, where history\, memory\, and imagination converge. Grounded with historical facts\, the film also explores Malcolm X’s iconic style\, the vibrant beauty of Ghana\, and the emotional and spiritual healing often felt by descendants of the African diaspora who return to their ancestral home.
The film will be followed by a reception and discussion with director\, muhammida E.l Muhajir and historian and researcher Dr. Adisa Vera Beatty and moderated by Yinka Adegoke exploring repatriation and the power of African Diaspora connections.

About the Director

Muhammida El Muhajir is a dynamic strategist whose expertise lies at the intersection of global brand marketing\, innovation\, and technology. Over her career\, she has developed and executed high-impact growth strategies for companies across 25 countries\, partnering with some of the world’s most prominent luxury\, FMCG\, and sportswear brands\, including Nike\, Mercedes-Benz\, Land Rover\, and Pernod Ricard.

With a particular focus on Africa’s emerging markets\, El Muhajir has spent the past decade pioneering market entry strategies\, leveraging her extensive experience as a strategist\, serial entrepreneur\, filmmaker\, event architect\, and thought leader. Her work has been instrumental in shaping brand presence and expanding consumer reach across the continent.

El Muhajir holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Howard University and a Data Analytics Certification from General Assembly\, equipping her with the skills to craft data-driven strategies that drive brand success in the digital age.
